House Church

We have house church on Wednesday nights. It usually looks something like this:

Every time we get together we eat, study the word, and pray for one another (Acts 2:42). We hold each other accountable, we talk, we confess, we laugh, we hope. We are community, and we are church.

This week we’ve all been studying Matthew 18. So have dozens of other house churches around the city. But tonight, we focused on the first few verses…unless you turn and become like children… so in honor of that, we had a kids’ meal.

Grapes, strawberries & sugar for dipping, mac ‘n’ cheese, tater totes, apple juice, peas, and popsicles. We also managed to fall into a lengthy discussion concerning the best Disney films, VHS rewinding machines, childhood cartoons, and the irony of Jane’s parents allowing her to watch The Simpsons but not Saved by the Bell as a kid.

That was a warm up for our discussion on Jesus’ words about the kingdom, about humilty, about the heart of a child. It was a good night.

Nerf Gun Warriors

Last night, we babysat for some friends of ours. Danny and the kids played war for at least 2 or 3 hours. He is officially the favorite.

Magic Mystery Tour #8 Final Stop

Our final stop on the magic mystery birthday tour was, of course, home. I was nicely surprised by a new Civil Wars album and a knitting book. And, Danny had the fold out couch all ready for a movie time snuggle base. It was the perfect end to a perfect day. Many thanks to the best husband.

Magic Mystery Tour # 6

Ice skating! I’ve been bugging Danny about going ice skating all winter. Apparently he’s been scheming all along.

Magic Mystery Tour # 4

After Retro Inferno, we cruised back to midtown. Then came the coin flip–heads for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art or tails for the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. The Nelson won:

Magic Mystery Tour Stop # 3

Retro Inferno! The store is full of mid-century modern furniture and oddities. We had a great time looking around and testing out chairs.

Magic Mystery Tour Detour

After lunch, Danny’s plan was to take me to the Airline History Museum. Unbeknownst to us, it is closed for renovations.  The photo above is a bit of comical evidence found on the road to the museum. Since the Kansas City Garment District Museum was nearby, we decided to try there instead. Turns out, it’s only open for a 5 hour period on Fridays. On the way back to the car, Danny snapped this photo of me in front of the Phoenix Jazz Club.

Danny’s next planned stop was meant to indulge my love of maps. Unfortunately, the Gallup Map Company is open by appointment only on Saturdays. In the midst of lamenting this trifecta of mid-western lethargy, we were rescued by one of downtown KC’s more unique attractions…
